“If You Build it, They Will Come.”

As I am creating the curriculum for a new professional development program I am working on, this quote keeps roaming around in my head:  “If you build it, they will come.”  And I hear it in my head in a whisper, repeating itself over and over again.  (If you have seen the movie “Field of Dreams” you know what I am talking about.  I am a sucker for sport movies, by the way.  Can’t get enough of the rebuilding and redemption themes, I guess.)

As I write this quote down in large letters at the top of the page of the documents I am creating, I realize how much this applies to anything we do or want to create in our lives.

“If you build it, they will come:”

When a business has a clear vision and mission; that business becomes the go to place for people seeking that service or product.

When we get clear on the vision of the life that we want, we have more clarity on how to make that vision a reality.  Which then makes it  more likely that our visions will become our reality.

When we get clear on the type of person we want to marry or be in a relationship with, our own qualities and values and the qualities and values that we are looking for in a partner; we feel more confident in our knowing and end up attracting those people to us.

When we have a clear vision for our relationships, we can more clearly take responsibility to create the relationships that we want.

And when we take responsibility and make the time to create the vision and the values we want to have in our homes, or in ourselves; we and our homes become places our loved ones love coming home to.

——

At a time when so many people have been impacted by the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, I think about all the people who have lost their homes, or loved ones.  It is heartbreaking to think of all of the rebuilding everyone is now involved in.   And I also think about the courage, strength, and camaraderie of everyone helping and encouraging one another to rebuild, refocus, and stay strong.

“If you build it, they will come.”

May all those involved in any rebuilding, whether the physical rebuilding of their homes or the internal rebuilding and healing of themselves, be blessed to see the fruits of their hard work and labor, and come out stronger than ever before.
