How to Make Better Life Choices with Ease, Clarity, and Confidence

man with hands outI haven’t written in a while and, so, when I was thinking about what to write about, the most logical place for me to start was to just be honest and reconnect with you and let you know what I have been up to and why I have not written in a while.

Since my last article, written in late June, a lot has been going on here in this tiny little country of mine.   All summer long we were in the midst of a war and I was definitely effected by the threat and terror that accompanied that war.  Needless to say that all of that, combined with my lovely children being home from school for summer ‘vacation’ (read: nay-cation) left me with very little time or the necessary head space to write any meaningful blog posts about how to move forward in life.  I can honestly say that the reason for that is because I believe I was busy simply surviving.

With all of that said, I am glad that war is over!  I am so glad to be able to think of loftier things again like how to connect to our authentic selves and create a successful and inspired life from that place.

So, I will dedicate the next half of this post with a little summary for you of what this Inside-Out Approach™ is and how you can start applying it in your life.

In a nutshell, what I am referring to when I talk about the Inside is our unique selves: our feelings, our thoughts, and our wants and needs.   The Outside,  then, is everything outside of ourselves:  other people’s thoughts, feelings, wants, and desires; as well as thoughts about what it is we think we should do.   In my professional and personal experience, I have found that when we are feeling stressed or stuck when having to make a choice, for example, it is likely because we are taking an Outside-In approach (thinking about what others might think we should do, or what others might be thinking or feeling.)  I have found that whenever I do this, it only leads me to feeling stressed and very confused.

The remedy?  Take an Inside-Out approach instead.  Ask yourself what it is you want.  Ask yourself what you feel.  Think about who you are; what your beliefs and values are.  Approaching your life, career, or relationship decisions from this place is more likely to lead you in the right direction for you.

(Hint/Tool:  If  you are feeling stressed or stuck with a decision you are trying to make, ask yourself:  “Am I approaching this from the Outside-In or from the Inside-Out?”)
