Monday Motivation: Take Off Your Mask

I know it can be scary – sharing the real you with others. It takes a lot of courage to put your real self out there in your career and in your relationships. Sharing your real thoughts, your real opinions, and your real feelings, can feel very vulnerable. The thought of you sharing your art, your ideas, and your creativity might seem daunting.

What will they think of me?, you might ask yourself.

What if they laugh at me?, you might wonder.

They will hate what they see, you might believe.

All of these questions and thoughts prevent you from being and sharing the real you.

My question to you is: what if they do?

What if they think you are a fool? What if they think you are too sensitive? What if they do not like what you create?

What if?

You can choose to keep hiding behind your mask. You can choose to allow the thoughts, the opinions, and the judgments of others to prevent you from sharing you. You can.

And when you choose to do that, recognize that you are allowing all of “them” to control you; to have power over what you do.

And please also recognize that you have no clue what “they” are thinking; nor do you have any real control over what “they” do.

You do, however, have control over you.

Shift your focus off of “them” and bring the focus back to you. Get back into your business. Think about who you are and what gifts, thoughts, and ideas you want to share with the world. Think about how you think the best and most effective way is for you to share all of these things with all those around you. This is all in your control.

When you are being true to you, and are doing ‘you’ to the best of your ability (and you let go of what is not in your control) you will be able to unleash you and give to the world what you are here to share, create, and produce. It is only when you are real with yourself and those around you, that you can and will experience true fulfillment in your life, career, and relationships.

Although you might know that being you is the best thing you can do for yourself and your relationships, the concept of unleashing you can feel daunting. You don’t have to take the mask off all at once, however. You can start unleashing you privately at first, and then with the people you trust the most. Take these small steps and surround yourself with the people who love and accept you for who you are, and who believe in you. Slowly, but surely, and day by day, you will find it easier and easier to take off your mask and just be.

In support, admiration, and in awe of all that you are,

Jenny
