How to Lead a Fulfilling Life as a Young Professional, Part 1 (of 3)

It was my birthday recently (yes, thank you, happy birthday to me) and a good friend of mine wished for me to have all of my dreams and wishes fulfilled. I love getting blessings like that. They speak to the individuality and uniqueness of the person. My friend was not wishing something specific that, for example, she might want for me, but rather she wished for me to receive whatever it is I wanted for myself.

“Thank you, ” I replied, “the trick is to know what it is I wish for and want for myself.”

“That’s your job, ” she replied, and I laughed. We both knew that she meant it was my job as a professional to help others get clear on what they really want, and that it was also my job to define and get clear on what it is I want for myself.

This, I believe, is the first step in leading a fulfilling life: to get clear on what you really want and desire.

Sometimes this knowing of what you truly want, and what you know is good for you, might be clouded by what you think you should want for yourself, or by what others have told you would be good for you. Or your inner voice and knowing might be drowned out by what other people are telling you to do. Other things that can be clouding your own inner voice and knowing is simply being busy with life; moving along in the wave of life without necessarily taking the time to think about what it is that you want, what makes you happy, and what would make your life feel full.

If you want to lead a fulfilling life, I encourage to take this time to think about and get clear about what you want; about what is meaningful to you and about what would bring you fulfillment in your life. Make a date with yourself, or with a good friend or confidant who is a really good listener. Take the time to listen to your own voice. Once you get clear on what really makes you happy, about what has meaning for you and brings you fulfillment, you will have a clearer sense of what steps to take to create fulfillment for yourself in your life.

Stay tuned for Part 2 of How to Lead a Fulfilling Life where I will address the next steps you can take to get there.

Enjoy the journey of reconnecting with what matters to you most.

In support and admiration,

Jenny
