One of the Hardest things to do While Pursuing Any Goal Is as a Young Professional Is…

When it comes to career, relationship, or any other type of goals we commit ourselves to, I find this to be the most important and also the hardest to do:

Being consistent.

I also know that it is being consistent with the steps I choose to take in order to pursue and reach my goals that will bring me success in these areas.

What does it mean to be consistent?

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, consistency is “marked by harmony, regularity, or steady continuity.” It is about committing to doing something and to doing that thing regularly. It is this regular, steady continuity that leads to successful experiences both in your personal and professional life.

How might consistency play out in your relationships?

Being consistent in your relationship could be something that you and your partner commit to doing on a regular basis in order to keep your relationship strong. Some examples of this include going out on a regular and consistent basis, spending quality time together/or talking at the end of each day, or committing to never going to sleep angry at one another (meaning that you make sure to work out whatever differences you have before going to bed.)

What about work? How might consistency play out at your job?

Simply put, being consistent at work means that you follow through on your tasks on a regular basis. In order to keep yourself fresh and motivated at work, be consistent about pampering and acknowledging yourself on a regular basis and learning new skills or information that will keep you up-to-date and excited about your work. These consistent actions keep you fresh and productive so that you can be successful at your job.

If you are a business owner, it is important to be consistent when it comes to keeping yourself well informed about whatever is relevant to your product and your target market. It is also important to be consistent with how and when you market your business and share your business message. This time that you make to both grow personally and professionally and to promote your business is what will help you attain success.

Committing to be consistent with anything on a regular basis is difficult. The regular routine can turn into white noise that gets ignored. Here are five tips to help you be consistent as you move toward fulfillment and success in your life, career, and relationships:

Tip #1: Commit to doing only a few (1 to 4) things at any given span of time.

Tip #2: With those things that you are choosing to be consistent with, choose things that you  know you can do and are realistic for you.

Tip #3: Decide when you will do these things. Put it on you calendar. Maybe it is something you do everyday, or at the same time of the day. Or maybe it is something you do a few times, or even only one-time, per week, or month. It does not matter what you choose, the key is to choose times that make sense to you and you know you will be able to follow-through on.

Tip #4: Believe. Believe that consistency will get you to where you want to be. Even when it does not seem that way, even when it seems that others are forging ahead way past you, believe that you being consistent, doing your thing, at your own pace, will get you to where you want to be.

Tip #5: Get support. Surround yourself with people who know you, believe in you and who love you. Tell them to remind you to keep believing in yourself, to keep going and to trust in yourself.

In support, admiration, and in awe of all that you are and all that you are capable of,
