Monday Motivation: How to Make Everyday a Good Day.

Sometimes you might feel that others around you, or the circumstances happening around you, are making you feel a certain way. While this is true to a certain extent I would like to encourage and empower you with the idea (and another truth) that you have more control over how you feel than you might realize.

It is very understandable when other people’s actions and the things that are happening around you impact you and your mood. This tends to happen naturally. It is less likely that you tap into other resources that you have to create the mood that you want to be in.

That’s right, you (and each and every one of us) is capable of creating the mood and the spirit you want to be in and see around you. You can do this by choosing the type of mood and spirit you want to be in and see around you and then being that which you want to see. [Click here to read more about what it means to ‘be the change.’]

More often what you are likely doing is reacting to the circumstances or the mood that is around you. This is a reactive approach to living life. In contrast, when applying a creative approach (such as an artist does when s/he is creating a painting or a piece of artwork) to life, you get to decide what is created on the canvas of your life, and decide who you want to be at any given moment, in any given situation. This takes practice as we are accustomed as a society to apply a reactive approach to life.

I recommend the following as you transition to applying a creative approach to your life so that you can lead the life that you want, one that will bring you happiness and success:

  • Whenever you find yourself reacting to a particular circumstance or to another person’s reaction, stop and take a moment (or a few minutes) to step back from your situation. Take some alone time to yourself and ask yourself what it is that you want, who you want to be, and how you want to feel. Taking this time to get clear about what it is that you want will help you recognize what it is that you can do to create the atmosphere you want to be in. You do this by taking responsibility and being that which you want to see happening around you.

  • At the beginning of each day, take a few minutes to think about what kind of day you want to have and who you want to be that day. Taking the time to choose who you want to be will help to shift your attitude and your actions to help you create the day you want to have. Of course, things might happen throughout the day that are out of your control that also might have an impact on you. Having a clear vision for your day and who you want to be, however, will help you make better choices with regards to how you respond in those situations, allowing you to determine your response as opposed to allowing the circumstance(s) to determine your reaction/response for you.
